In the Central division 2 vs 3 matchup, you have the St. Louis Blues taking on the Minnesota Wild. The western conference has seen some lopsided standings and this game is an example of that. This is a 2 vs 3 matchup and the 2 teams are over 30 points apart from each other. This is no bash on Minnesota. They worked hard to improve their team and get the opportunity to be here but, the western conference is as unbalanced as it can be.
The St. Louis Blues finished at 56-20-6 for 118 points. A very good season. But, in season 15, it sticks them 5th overall in the west. St. Louis is well run. ExEcuTioNeR-_-53 who last owned a team in season 12, returned this season and did a great job along with his captain, bigyan__. Even though this was bigyan's lowest output as a player in VG, this team was built around defense first. flight-airline has been the keeper from day 1. Greeno1822 is another original, playing most games on defense and the team has a great record when he's there. After that, every player on this team started somewhere else. Besides ExE and Greeno, x-Skinner-_53_- is also a primary D man and like Greeno, has an outstanding record when he's in. The Blues offense went through a complete revamp. Besides Yan, no one from the starting roster remained. Started by trading for MUDD_FLAPS. They then landed a stud wing in eastons17 in a 6 man trade with Ottawa (also x-Skinner-_53-), A couple of odd moves where the Blues traded players back and forth with the Rangers and then right before the deadline with Toronto, they finished out the roster with Double_brah, FFrantic_, Vish_b and Malkinsidconx871. The way this team is constructed, look for them to make a solid run.
The Minnesota Wild finished the season at 40-35-7 for 87 points. Normally, 87 points would not get a team into the playoffs, let alone a 3 seed in their division but here we are. Not going to take anything away from the Wild because sjackson2324 and SgtVandoos did a great job retooling this team and fighting to get this team here. This group started by piecing together members of last season's San Jose team by bidding players like the Sharks former owner JCEB85 and 2 former captains of his, Theindian4321 and Theindian4321. They have 2 veterans in alonzi401 and XIBIGMUMMYIX to help solidify the back end of the team. The season really turned for a positive when they altered their 1st line offense by picking up SiDD_05, Reps_71 and Insane_Hellfire.
The St. Louis Blues have offensive depth from top to bottom. Eastons17's 3.24 PPG (3.91 PPG since joining the team) led the team. With the additions of ffrantic_(3.42 PPG since joining the team), Vish_b, double_brah and MUDD_FLAPS joining Malkinsidconx871 and bigyan_, any forward line this team rolls out will be hard to beat.
The Wild did a great job re-tooling their team identity. After an average start, they made moves to land a top forward line of SiDD_05, Reps_71 and Insane_Hellfire. SiDD and Reps since landing in Minny both have around 3.00 PPG. Adding these guys in with the chemistry of TheIndian4321, JCEB85 and the hitting master, StenchOfDecay666, this group has turned into a formidable opponent.
EDGE – ST. LOUIS BLUES
On defense, both teams use 3 primary players. The Blues big 3 are Executioner-_-53, Greeno1822 and x-Skinner_53_-. This group can lock down almost anyone. Any one of the 3 guys have solid offensive numbers and a high +/-. ExE is a +70, Greeno has a 1.23 PPG and Skinner has a 1.03 to go along with a +48. This team will attempt to take a lead, smother you on defense and capitalize the more chances the other team takes to try and get back into the game.
The Wild also have a trio on defense. They aren't too involved in the offensive end with only 4 goals between the 3 of them. The addition of XIBIGMUMMYIX has made a big difference for them. A steady, everyday player, he's played to almost a 1PPG and a +18. JCEB85 and StenchOfDecay666 play the left side and have combined for 32 points of their own. If this team is going to compete, these guys will need to command the slot area.
EDGE – ST. LOUIS BLUES
The Blues net is flight-airlines. He's among the league leaders in a many categories including wins (40) and shutouts (8). He's a veteran in the league but hasn't been around the playoffs since S12 so he'll be looking to make a deep run.
The Wild have a 2 headed monster in goal in SgtVandoos and alonzi401. Split the games down the middle with 38 each and have similar numbers but SgtVandoos has the better record with 22 wins. One of these guys will need to have a career week if they plan on moving on to the next round.
